Présentation

The Scientific Instrumentation Service (SIS) supports all the laboratory research teams. SIS
provides technical expertise to research projects in all the fields covered by the lab:

  • Laser-plasma acceleration
  • Magnetron discharges (plasma studies, thin films, etc.)
  • Microwave discharges (micro-discharges, micro- and macro-torches, surface treatment)
  • Metal (Electron Beam Melting) and polymer (Fused Deposition Modeling) additive
    manufacturing systems
  • Charged particle sources (thermionic, plasma, lasers)
  • Low-pressure vacuum engineering
  • Experimental equipment management

It draws on a wide range of knowledge and skills:

  • Measurement instrumentation for plasma diagnostics and particle sources.
  • Development of control-command interfaces for instrument control and data acquisition
    (Python, etc.)
  • Experimental health and safety.
  • CAD (SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.)
  • Numerical analysis of experimental results (Matlab / Octave, Python).
  • Physical simulation for instrument design (FEMM, Comsol Multiphysics).
  • Materials characterization (profilometry, optical microscopy, resistivity measurements, etc.).
  • Design, assembly, optimization, and maintenance of low-pressure vacuum systems.

Collaborations

SIS is regularly part of experimental campaigns for domestic and abroad scientific
collaborative projects: APOLLON (Orme des Merisiers, France), Lund Laser Centre (Lund,
Suède), Thomson scattering installed on DIVA setup of LPGP, in collaboration with Institut
de Combustion Aérothermique Réactivité Environnement (ICARE, Orléans). This service

team provides services to other laboratories (thin film vacuum deposition chamber and
process) or industrial companies (material characterization, plasma treatment, additive
manufacturing of prototypes, etc.). Engineers of SIS are often co-authors of peer-to-peer
reviewed papers and co-inventors of several patents issued from the laboratory research (e.g.,
projects SOFIA, AMbition, ProSPA).
Le SIS is involved in different Working Groups at the national level on additive
manufacturing with the ‘Réseau des Mécaniciens’ (RDM – machining network) of CNRS and
is an active member in transverse actions like ‘Fête de la Science’ or workshops organization
democratizing plasmas pour les scholars.
